Honoring Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month
October is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to gently honor the babies who are no longer with us and the families who carry their memory in their hearts. For many, this type of loss can feel invisible — unspoken, misunderstood, or met with silence. Yet the grief is real, deep, and life-changing.
At Montana Therapy for Moms, we want to acknowledge that this grief is not something to “move on” from. It becomes part of a parent’s story — one woven with love, longing, and sometimes pain. Parents may feel sadness, anger, guilt, or isolation, and partners, siblings, grandparents, and friends also feel the ripple effects of this loss. When support is missing, the weight can feel even heavier.
Each year on October 15th, families around the world take part in the Wave of Light, lighting candles at 7 p.m. in remembrance of the children gone too soon. This shared act is a powerful reminder that no one grieves alone, even when the silence feels overwhelming.
Supporting Families Through Loss
Therapy can provide a safe and compassionate space for parents and families to:
Speak their child’s name and share their story without judgment.
Explore the complex emotions of grief at their own pace.
Strengthen relationships and communication during a painful time.
Discover moments of healing and meaning while holding space for loss.
Grief has no timeline. Healing does not mean forgetting. Counseling offers a place to honor both love and loss while learning how to live with both.
